This diploma program teaches student the knowledge of networktechnologies available in the market. Level I prepare a student for all theentry level jobs for IT professional like technical support, Microsoft officeprofessional or a computer technician. Level II prepare a student for enteringinto the field of networking. After doing this course, a student would be quiteproficient in setting up simple networks, maintaining simple security issuesand maintaining a Windows server. Students will be ready for their A+,Security+, Network+, MOS and MCTS certification exam during the course. LevelIII is the advanced specialization where student can choose anyone out ofavailable three. After completing this level, a student would be a networkexpert. It is a student's choice to even do two to be more sellable in theindustry.

Program Requirements:  High School Diploma, or age 18 and above;Vancouver Institute of Technology English placement test minimum 55% orVancouver International College ESL program as a prerequisite.

Learning Outcomes /Objectives:Upon completion of this program the student will be able to:

·Design computer networks using current technologies and trouble shootcomputer network problems

·Configure and install Windows Server & active directory; Manage andrecover messaging security

·Create and use a network sniffer to capture and display virtual switchnetwork traffic

·Determine IP routes and manage IP traffic with access lists; Establishpoint-to-point connections and frame relay connection; Demonstrate the skillsrequired in plan and implement the local and wide area networks

·Maintain advance security in wired and wireless environment; PerformSystem Configuration and Management

·Manage Network Services like HTTP/HTTPS, DNS , FTP, NFS, 5MB, SMTP, SSHand NTP

·Understand and Use Essential Tools; Operate Running Systems; ConfigureLocal Storage

Course Description

Basic ESL for Computerprofessionals (ESL – CSL)

Thiscourse is specialty designed for the Immigration to give them knowledge aboutthe basic English as required in the working environment. This would examine someof the fundamental ideas of the English language as need by the computerprofessionals. Lectures and hands-on assignments cover a wide variety of topicssuch as basic grammar, letter writing procedure, generating reports etc. Aspecial emphasis would be given to English speaking in an office environment

Basic Computer Fundamentals(CS-01)

Thiscourse is designed to appeal to a diverse audience and examines some of thefundamental ideas of the science of computing. Lectures and hands-onassignments cover a wide variety of topics such as hardware organization, the Internet,computer programming, limits of computing, and graphics.

Basic Windows Knowledge (CS-02)

Thiscourse is designed make student understand the characteristics and workingissues with the most popular operating system these days. Lectures and hands-onassignment cover a wide variety of topics such as Icons, menus, administrativetools, setting up accounts and controlling the system configuration withcontrol panel. This course can only be done after NE-01.

A+ essentials (CS-03)

Thiscourse measures the necessary competencies of an entry-level IT professionalwith a recommended 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Itprepares the student for technical understanding of computer technology,networking and security, as well as the communication skills and professionalismrequired for all entry-level IT professionals.

A+ (Practical Application)(CS-04)

Thisis an extension of the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+Essentials, with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused onscenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolveproblems. This can only be done after NE-03. Both these courses togetherprepare a student for A+ certification.

MS-windows Desktop Support (CS-05)

Thiscourse is designed to make a student familiar with details of operating systemsand a wide array of software applications, while learning troubleshooting a PC.Lectures and hands-on assignments cover a wide variety of topics such as remotecontrolling the desktops, resolving major desktop failure issues like bluescreen, Virus detection and prevention and basic hardware maintenance.

MS-Office (CS-06)

Thiscourse is designed to develop or update skills required for a successful officeand technology support professional in a school or business environment. Inthis course, students receive instruction and practice skills in MicrosoftOffice programs, business communication, basic educational concepts, and officeprocedures in a school or office environment.

Introduction to Networking (cs-07)

Thiscourse is designed to develop or update skills required for a setting up abasic network. In this course, students receive Instruction and practice skillsin Network technologies, Protocols, topologies and other networking concepts

Industrial Training I (CS-PROJI)

Thisis the first training of the complete program. This training is intended togive hands on experience to the student for the real working environment. Thistraining would be practical implementation of the course covered in Level-l

Advanced ESL for Computerprofessionals (ESL-CSII)

Thiscourse is specially designed for the immigrants to give them knowledge aboutthe advanced English as required in the working environment. This would examinedetailed English language concepts as needed by an advanced computerprofessionals. Lectures and hands-on assignments cover a wide variety of topicssuch as Report Writing, Proposals making and talking to different level ofpeople in a business environment.

Details of Computer Network (CS-08)

Ihis course includes design, development, and implementation issues in computernetwork protocols and architectures. Lectures discuss various design issues incomputer networks, implementation of the protocols, and trade-offs betweenvarious performance measures such as delay and thru put. The homework and exam problemsare based on design Issues discussed in lecture.

Network+ (CS-09)

Thiscourse is designed to provide details of managing, maintaining, troubleshooting,installing and configuring basic network infrastructure. This course preparesthe students for Network+ certification and lays a strong foundation for thespecialization in Level III.

Serve Technology (CS-10)

Thiscourse is designed for information technology (IT) professionals to enable themto work and maintain the Windows Server. In this course, students receiveinstruction and practice skills to work in or consult with small businessesthat use Window Small Business

Server(SBS). After doing this course a student would be able to appear for MCTS: WindowsSmall Business Server exam.

Introduction to NetworkSecurity (CS-11)

Thiscourse Is designed to cover theory and practice of computer security, focusingin particular on the security aspects of the web and internet. It surveyscryptographic tools used to provide security such as shared key encryption,public key encryption, key exchange, and digital signature. It then reviews howthese tools are utilized in the internet protocols and applications such as SSLITLS, IPSEC, Kerberos, PGP, SIMIME, SET, and others (including wireless), Systemsecurity issues, such as viruses, intrusion, and firewalls, will also be covered.

Security+ (CS-12)

Thisobjective of this course is to provide IT professionals with the knowledge andskills necessary to demonstrate a broad knowledge of security concerns andperform fay-to-day security functions. It prepares a student for Security+certification m which is recognized around the world as the benchmark forfoundation-level security professionals. This course is incorporating acomprehensive range of security knowledge areas.

Introduction to Linux (CS-13)

Thiscourse will introduce students to the Linux Operating System: willconcentration in security and automation. Topics will include Linux ShellProgramming, Perl Programming, Kernels, File Systems, Systems Administration,TCP/IP Networking, Web Environments, TCPIIP Socket Programming, and otherbusiness applications for Linux Systems.

Industrial Training II (CS-PROJII)

Thisis the second industrial training of the program. This training is intended togive hands on experience to the student of the real working environment. Thistraining would be a practical implementation of the course covered in level -II.
